The highly anticipated Retro 51 Limited Edition Typhoon marks the exclusive Retro 51 Tornado Rollerball a tribute to the formidable Hawker Typhoon Mk IB, Reg MR-U, famously known as "Sharky."
The "Sharky" Legacy
Typhoon MP147, affectionately nicknamed "Sharky" for its intimidating painted teeth on the radiator—a design believed to be unique—left an indelible impression on all who saw it. It was also the first RAF fighter to sustain 400 mph.
"Sharky" was frequently flown by Flt. Lt. Harrison Taylor "Moose" Mossip, a decorated Canadian pilot known for his exceptionally aggressive combat style. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Mossip's relentless attacks on Axis targets, from barges to locomotives, cemented the Typhoon's fearsome reputation in ground attack. It's widely believed that "Sharky's" iconic markings were a direct reflection of Mossip's daring approach, and he flew the aircraft in these markings throughout WWII.
The Retro 51 Tornado Typhoon Pen
The Retro 51 Tornado Typhoon pen features a trademarked knurled twist-top. The paint finish combined with the acid-etching gives each pen a unique yet slightly vintage quality much the same as the real Fighter Bombers. It boasts a blue nose cone matching blue and white checker markings on the tail and top disc, all finished with WW2 camouflage, the distinctive shark mouth nose art, and the RAF Roundel.
This limited edition pen (only 400 pieces, with a numbered top ring) takes a Schmidt P8127 rollerball refill or an EasyFlow refill for ballpoint preference. It comes in attractive gift packaging that doubles as a desk pen holder.
